About Me

…you matter,

you are,

– Madeline L’Engle, A Wind in the Door

I started this blog as a project for a creative writing class and will now continue as a way to honor the more personal expressions of my inner voice.

I blog under the pen name Autumn Sky. This gesture helps my mind settle and find places of rest. It encourages me to share truthfully and without censor. It brings gentleness when I forget that it is safe to be imperfect. It is a warm, soft security blanket for my sweet soul.

  1. Your theme is sleek and attractive and your intro is lovely. Your reasoning makes a lot of sense to me — it’s funny to think of using a fake name in order to be more genuine, but, in this case, you are absolutely right. One question: what is an antevasin? It’s not in the dictionary.

    1. Antevasin is a Sanskrit word. I came across it in Elizabeth Gilbert’s book Eat, Pray, Love. It means, ‘one who lives at the border.’ Here’s a quote from the book (below) – I like the extra detail.

“In ancient times, this was a literal description. It indicated a person who had left the bustling center of worldly life to go live at the edge of the forest where the spiritual masters dwelled. The antevasin was not of the villager’s anymore-not a householder with a conventional life. But neither was he yet a transcendent-not one of those sages who live deep in the unexplored woods, fully realized. The antevasin was an in-betweener. He was a border-dweller. He lived in sight of both worlds, but he looked toward the unknown. And he was a scholar.”

Thanks for taking the time to read and comment!

  2. Hello Sky. Found you on the blogroll over at The Commons of Bloggin U. 101. I’m a fellow ZeroToHero participant myself.
Just wanted to introduce myself and say hi. *wave wave wave* “hi” : )

    1. Great to meet you *big smile + eager wave back* I like the custom background on your blog. And, I noticed we have the same theme – I’ve really liked it so far! Best wishes on your continued blogging journey 🙂

      1. Thanks! I took that picture a couple of weeks ago. I received a camera a couple of months ago and have been
trying to learn my way around one again.

I noticed that about the themes we use, too. It’s like we’re theme twins. : )
